Project 2003 Refining a Project Plan

Objective

Learn to use the capabilities of Project 2003 to refine and improve your project plan.

Prerequisite Skills

Familiar with project management concepts and with using Microsoft Project to create a simple project plan.

Course Description

You have the basics of your project plan down, but now you need to refine the project with more information. In this course, learn to refine task relationships, enter lag or lead time, apply constraints, assign costs, and work with resource information.

Attend this course if you want to:

  • Use PERT (Program Evaluation & Review Technique) tools to determine most likely task durations.

  • Work with recurring tasks.

  • Modify task relationships.

  • Add lag and/or lead time.

  • Apply a calendar to a task.

  • Split tasks.

  • Apply task constraints.

  • Locate tasks that cause conflict.

  • Resolve task constraint conflicts.

  • Set a deadline date for a task.

  • Use the Adjust Dates macro.

  • Work with the Resource Information dialog box.

  • Understand resource costs, fixed costs, total cost, and cost accrual.

  • Calculate the work formula.

  • Understand effort-driven scheduling.

  • Modify resource assignments.
